CARRIE MAHLKE

PRESIDENT

Carrie is the Branch Manager at First Interstate Bank in Brookings!  Carrie and her husband Reed moved back to Brookings in 2009. Both attended SDSU and made the decision to move back into this great town to raise their family. They have three children, Paige (a graduate of Brookings), Rystrom and Mia who are heavily involved in the athletic programs which include volleyball, soccer, football, golf and basketball. Carrie has been on The Backers Board since 2016 and is really excited about the Backers new and enthusiastic board members! She is looking forward to implementing many new ideas to get our community more involved to support the Bobcat Backers! GO BOBCATS!

DOUG KOPECKY

VICE-PRESIDENT

Douglas Kopecky is the owner and president of Blue Sky Technologies. Kopecky has been a resident of Brookings for over 20 years. He joined the backers board in 2023. Kopecky’s oldest daughter is a senior at BHS and has been actively involved in BHS volleyball and club programs for many years. Kopecky’s youngest will be starting school as a bobcat in 2025. In his free time, Kopecky enjoys golfing, grilling, and spending quality family time with his wife Karissa and their two daughters.

KRISTIN BISGARD

TREASURER

Bisgard is a Project Manager at Banner Associates. Her husband’s name is Chris and they have 3 children. A sophomore, a 7th grader, and a 6th grader. Her sophomore daughter plays soccer and basketball and runs track. Bisgard has lived in Brookings since graduating from SDSU.

KARISSA KOPECKY

Kopecky is the marketing manager at Falcon Plastics. Kopecky resides in Brookings with her husband, Doug, and two daughters. Kopecky’s oldest daughter will be entering her senior year at BHS and has been actively involved in BHS volleyball and club programs for many years. Kopecky’s youngest will be starting her school years as a bobcat in 2025. Having joined the backers board in 2022, Kopecky is also committed to improving the community and individuals around her through volunteering, advocating, and supporting local community programs like Make-A-Wish South Dakota, Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce, and more.

ERIC KANNEGIETER

MEMBER-AT-LARGE

Eric Kannegieter is Business Development Manager at Creative Printing. He and his wife Nikki both attended SDSU and moved back to Brookings in 2016. Their oldest child Blake plays football, wrestles, runs track, and is involved in FFA for the Bobcats while Sophie enjoys basketball, volleyball, dance, and girls on the run. Their youngest, Charlie, gets to tag along to his older sibling’s activities and cheer on the Bobcats! The Kannegieters believe in being involved in their children’s activities through volunteering, and have helped coach many youth sports teams throughout their time in Brookings. Joining the Bobcat Backer board in 2022 was a great way to continue to serve and assist to enhance the programs their children enjoy so much.

JESSE JOHNSON

MEMBER-AT-LARGE

Jesse Johnson was born in Brookings and lived here until middle school. Johnson graduated high school in Evergreen, Colorado. At that point, she decided to be a SDSU Jackrabbit. Johnson moved back to Brookings in 1996 and has been here ever since! Owner of Sunflower Salon & Spa here in Brookings, Johnson has two fantastic kids. Avery, graduated from Brookings High School in 2022 and is now attending SDSU! Growing up she played basketball in the BBA program and through middle school. Then she found the love of volleyball, playing three years for BHS as well as the SDVC. Her son, Sam, is currently a junior at BHS. He also played basketball with the BBA program as well as football through the youth football program. He’s been playing baseball ever since he could swing a bat. Sam plays basketball and baseball for Brookings High School and legion baseball in the summers. He plans to add golf in the fall! Johnson has enjoyed being on The Bobcat Backers boar, fundraising for some great events which have provided our youth equipment and opportunities they may not have had otherwise. Johnson states she has “met some wonderful people in our community through The Bobcat Backers” as well. We have a strong community that supports our youth and our athletics. Go Bobcats!!!
